CHARACTERISTICS OF WILDLIFE MUSK OX
Male and female musk oxen have long curved horns as seen in our Bull Images. They stand 4 to 5 ft high. They have a small tail that is concealed under a layer of fur. Adults, on average 630 pounds. The thick coat and large head suggest a larger animal than the muskox truly is. The musk ox is occasionally domesticated for wool, meat, and also milk. They mark their trails with preorbital glands. A musk ox can reach speeds of 37 mph.
The musk ox lives in herds of 12–24 during winter and 8–20 in the summer. Male and also female musk oxen both have separate age-based hierarchies like most wildlife groups. The mature oxen are always dominant over the juveniles. Dominant musk bulls often get access to the best resources and also land. They will displace subordinates from patches of grass during the winter season. Musk oxen bulls assert their dominance in many ways.
Bulls are also known to roar, they swing their heads, and also paw the ground. The dominant bulls often treat subordinate bulls like cows of an ice age. A dominant bull will casually kick subordinates. Subordinate bulls can change their status among herds by charging at the dominant bull in the herd with their massive horns as seen in our musk ox images and pictures of musk oxen.
HOW CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECTS THE WILDLIFE
Taking these Musk Oxen are inexorably linked to climate stressors in the Arctic. Unlike people and other animal species, they do not adapt very well to warm weather temperatures and they are also feeling the brunt of CLIMATE CHANGE. Due to climate change, it’s been found that newborn musk ox has a smaller head size. Pregnant Musk oxen are more vulnerable and also risk starving due to climate change which leads to death or the world population decrease. Musk ox can push through the loose powdery snow aside with their snout and legs, but when rain falls on top of snow and then refreezes, it forms a hard layer of ice. Muskoxen cannot break through this ice so they struggle to find food.
Like many animals, they are forced to migrate northwards as warming temperatures force them to also find new habitats. In the near future, they and other species could run out of places to retreat to. Ejaz Khan fine art photography is all about creating awareness for gigantic creatures.
