The Artwork

Trust captures two horses moving together through an open landscape, their forms connected by direction, rhythm, and movement.

The generous negative space isolates the horses and gives the composition a sense of freedom and quiet elegance.

Presented in black and white, the photograph emphasizes line, form, and the relationship between the two animals rather than the surrounding landscape.

At its core, Trust is about connection—the confidence to move forward knowing someone is beside you.

It shares this same restraint with Integrity, another quiet portrait in the Fine Art Horse Photography collection.

The Story Behind “Serendipity”

I was in North Dakota photographing horses at Carrie and Dale’s ranch with my friend Beni Paulson.

Carrie had around 150 horses, and I arrived with a very specific photograph already in my mind.

I wanted movement that reminded me of motorcycle racing—the moment a rider enters a turn and leans dramatically into it. I wanted to see that same sense of speed, balance, and controlled power in a horse.

There was one problem.

I had only recently met Carrie, and creating this photograph required everyone to work. The horses had to be gathered, the gates opened, and the herd driven toward exactly where I was positioned.

I couldn’t keep asking them to do it again and again until I got what I wanted.

So everyone took their positions.

I placed myself at the bottom of a hill and tried to remain hidden from the approaching horses.

The gates opened.

The herd came charging down the hill.

Then they saw me.

The horse in front made an extraordinary turn.

I pressed the shutter.

For a fraction of a second, I thought I had created the photograph I had envisioned.

Then doubt took over.

I wasn’t certain.

So I walked back to Carrie and asked if we could do everything one more time.

She agreed.

It wasn’t until I returned to New York and began going through the photographs that I discovered something I hadn’t realized in North Dakota.

I already had it.

The first run had given me almost exactly what I had imagined—the horse leaning deeply into the turn, its body suspended between speed and balance, its mane following the movement.

The second run hadn’t been necessary.

Sometimes we become so focused on what we think perfection should look like that we don’t recognize it when it has already happened.

This photograph was one of those moments.

An accident.

A surprise.

And a reminder that sometimes the photograph you are searching for has already found you.

Refined Interiors

Trust brings movement, connection, and understated elegance into a refined interior.

The expansive negative space and black-and-white palette allow the artwork to create presence without visually overwhelming the room.

Displayed at scale, the two horses become a sophisticated focal point for a living room, executive office, private study, or contemporary interior.

Its restrained composition makes Trust especially suited to interiors where simplicity, balance, and thoughtful design are central to the space.

The Emotional Experience

Trust carries a feeling of connection, freedom, and quiet companionship.

The two horses move together without hesitation, creating a sense of confidence that comes from knowing you are not moving forward alone.

The open landscape and restrained composition give the photograph a feeling of calm, while the movement keeps the image alive.

Living with Trust becomes a reminder that strength can come from connection—the quiet certainty of knowing someone is beside you.
