CHARACTERISTICS OF REINDEERS

When someone asks me, “show me a picture of reindeer? You can see beautiful pictures of reindeer and their antlers in our reindeer images photography collection. While often considered different species, reindeer and caribou refer to the same animal. Caribou is a Canadian French word and comes from the Mi’kmaq word “Cariboo, ” meaning “scratchier.” This refers to the herbivore’s characteristic digging behavior when looking through the snow for vegetation.

If you compare reindeer photographs to caribou, you can see that there isn’t much to differentiate them. Differences between them arise in their geographies, ranging from tundra to woodland.

LIFE OF REINDEERS (RED-NOSED REINDEER AND SANTA REINDEER)

Life in a freezing habitat does not sound livable to you or me, but that doesn’t necessarily apply to the reindeer. You can see how they survive in a cold environment, like in our pictures of reindeer titled, “Responsibilities”. These hardy herbivores have evolved to adapt to the unforgiving tundra and even make it look easy. They feel right at home in the tundra thanks to their unique adaptations, which we usually see in reindeer content.

However, suppose someone asks to show me a picture of reindeer. In that case, we explain that most pictures are of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer images and Santa reindeer images never capture just how unrelenting their habitat is. Most importantly, Mother Nature equipped them with tools that perfectly prepared them for their harsh environment.

Reindeer have specially adapted noses that warm the cold air they breathe before it enters their lungs. This also condenses the humidity in the air to help moisten their mucous membranes and keep them functional. Their thick shaggy fur traps air, creating a fantastic insulation system. Lastly, their hooves are specially designed to adapt to the changing seasons and conditions. During the warmer summer months, the ground is wet and their hoof pads soften up to give them an extra grip. Then during the colder winter season, the hoof pads harden up. This exposes the outer rim of the hooves, which can dig into the snow and help them grip the slick snow and ice.

WILDLIFE REINDEER FACTS

  1. Reindeer refers to the domesticated animal, while caribou refers to the wild animal.
  2. Reindeer are part of the deer family or Cervidae. This includes deer, elk, moose, and wapiti. Reindeer are also known as caribou. This classification is based on their habitat.
  3. They are native to cold regions like Alaska, Canada, and Scandinavia. Their fur is made up of hollow hairs that trap in the air keeping them well-insulated.
  4. Reindeer are the only animal to have hair completely cover their noses. This helps them warm up the cold air they breathe before it reaches their lungs.
  5. They adapt to see ultraviolet light. This allows them to better see food or other animals that are camouflag in the snow.

THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON REINDEER

I have always believed in giving back. When I realized how much damage has been done to the animals and the planet due to climate change, I knew I had to do something. The direction led me to conservation groups and also nature organizations.

So when you buy a photography print or pictures of reindeer from us, not only do you have an inspiring photo of some of nature’s finest creatures on your walls, but you will also be helping them.

SANTA’S SURVIVALISTS

Show me a picture of a reindeer? Reindeer images for sale are almost always synonymous with Santa’s trust animals and their significance to Christmas. The fairytale-like identity of these animals paints them as merry hardworking helpers that make America’s favorite holiday possible every year.

When we think of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer pictures, we likely imagine him pulling a sleigh. Or we see a reindeer photo of the other reindeer resting in comfortable stables in the North Pole. Of course, in reality, these animals don’t have a jolly old caretaker to ensure that they make it through every winter.

Unfortunately, there was no Santa reindeer to take pictures of. Despite their sweet and soft-story personalities, real-life reindeer have to face extreme conditions to survive their habitats. But I am so thrilled to share our pictures of real reindeer, overall reindeer photography, and reindeer fine art with you all.

INDIGENOUS IMPORTANCE OF PICTURES OF REINDEERS IN FINE ART PRINTS

Reindeer images and reindeer art decor have been significant for much more than just Christmas marketing and also fairy tales. Indigenous people in many Northern parts of the world highly respect and appreciate these herbivores. In Scandinavia and Canada, they hunted these animals, fed and clothed indigenous people from prehistoric times until today. We can still find reindeer hunting traps from the Stone Age. Even today, in Scandinavia, reindeer is a popular meat source.

Lastly, fine art images of reindeer and reindeer have illustrated these essential animals for centuries. Modern-day reindeer images may have more religious undertones for the West. But these herbivores still hold much cultural relevance for indigenous people. Our modern society must learn to respect the animals we use and commit to taking only what we need. Ejaz Khan fine art photography is all about creating awareness these reindeer and all wildlife around the world.
